Guild Wars 2 Delayed To Next Quarter According To GameStop

Guild Wars 2 is shaping up to be a game changer in the tired MMO genre. It needs a kick in the pants and Guild Wars 2 looks to be the game to do it. Heck, I hate MMOs and I want to play Guild Wars 2, that’s how awesome it looks. Unfortunately, we may have to wait a bit longer to get our collective hands on the game.

Joystiq is reporting that during a GameStop conference call today, CFO Robert Lloyd mentioned that Guild Wars 2 had been bumped out of the current quarter. That means that the game is now going to come out sometime after July.

The game is currently listed, even on GameStop’s Web site as having a release date of June 26. It could be a short delay that goes into the next quarter but doesn’t go past August. That would make the wait more bearable, but we could also be looking at a longer delay.

Arenanet has been implementing some drastic and pretty revolutionary changes into Guild Wars 2. The recent weekend beta tests have been wildly successful with our John Vinson lavishing praise upon the game’s world:

“Guild Wars 2 is basically the game that reaches into that part of a person who likes to wander around and get lost in an experience. If you go to an amusement park and say ‘screw these maps’, I’m going to just have fun…then you’ll love Guild Wars 2.”

As Joystiq points out, you can’t trust any news of a delay until you hear it straight from the horse’s mouth. If Arenanet doesn’t have a talking horse, then you’ll just have to settle for a developer representative. I’m sure they’ll let us know soon if the game has indeed been delayed.

Regardless, you might want to pre-order that sweet special edition now or forever hold your peace. As a consolation prize, you can go listen to the GameStop conference call yourself if you still don’t believe that the most exciting MMO ever has been delayed.

I don’t understand this article. To say that Guild wars 2 has been delayed is redundant, as has been stated more times than I can count, by NCsoft the game will be released when it is done. No release date has ever been stated as of yet by the designer, other than a POSSIBlE release in 2012. The last time I checked the calendar, they still have until December 31st to release this title in 2012. Come on people lets give them a chance to finish this game right. If they release it too soon it will be buggy, and than we will have to read articles like this, busting NCsofts balls for not doing a better job… Just play the beta, and be happy for the chance to help clean up what could be one of the best MMOs to date. Keep up the great work NCsoft.

That’s why I said that this is all speculation until we hear from the developer or publisher. GameStop, however, generally knows more than we do in regards to release dates due to their tight relationship with publishers. Guild Wars 2 is also a major retail PC launch so they’re very interested in it. The CFO said it was going to be pushed back into the next quarter to prepare shareholders for a potential missed launch this quarter.

I agree with your comments fully but NCSoft does not deserve your praises. It is Arena.Net who is making the game and doing all the work and deserves such praises. NCSoft is simply just the publisher in this. They have nothing to do with making the game or when it comes out.

It WILL BE RELEASED 2012 based on many tweets and latest bwe info. It was stated that this game will be out this year but no release date has been announced

I completely agree Robert! But I also am foaming at the mouth for this game!!!!

Agreed. There is no delay. NCSoft said they will probably release the game sometime in 2012 (no guarantees). GameStop jumped the gun (again) and said it would be this quarter. This is not the first time GameStop has given false release dates. If my memory serves, GameStop issued a release date for WarCraft III that was over one year before it was actually released. Moral of the story… don’t believe GameStop’s (or any other retail store’s) release dates. Only believe what is said officially by the developer of the software. Don’t get angry with the developer for a delay when the delay didn’t actually exist. Get angry at GameStop for giving false release dates.

I didn’t trust this writer after he said sweet limited edition version, when quite clearly it is a huge money spinner and nothing more.

Hahah I actually got it. It’s pricey, no argument there. But I got it for two reasons. One: Guild Wars was basically my first real MMO. It was also a game that expanded my ideas about gaming and that I played, relatively, hardcore. Also, with no subscription fee, the CE is just another way that I can support ANet and the furthering of Guild Wars. With Warcraft or other PtP models, you’d be paying 150$ every 10 months for the game, not even including the initial purchase. So I don’t feel so absurd for paying 150$ for GW2 and never paying again.
