  1. i would love to active new look awesome. thanks google.

  2. viral

    good

  3. Another Gmailer

They pretty much screwed everything up even more as it used to be.

    * illogical and clunky layout

    * no clearly defined visual boundaries

    * incoherent and bland icons

    * buttons jump around

    * way too much options

    • Kourian

That’s it. In. A. Nutshell. That’s it. Really incomprehensible they’d do this. What new class of brain dead dweebs did they get to work there? It’s really a staggering fail on all counts. Don’t they realise they are staring at their test screens for months on end and others won’t? Are they that dense? Must be. This is a historically huge fail for Google. Staggering.

      • Gary

        I agree 100%

        • Alexandre

It is curious that Mr. Page is against Gmail´s users who are wholly against the new look!

          • dimitar

Amazingly such design has been approved!
It is mildly said – awful!

    • your spot on! normally I’m open to layout changes and function changes such as the one’s facebook rolled out, and I normally hate people yapping about it too. But google are going bland, getting rid of any colour which helps you navigate. I may as well go back to my hotmail account now.

    • Fozzy

      “incoherent and bland icons”
I don’t like the icons. They are not obvious. They missed the “Don’t Make Me Think” boat on the icons.

The rest of it, I love. Though, I use the default theme. Maybe it’s worse with background images and what not?

    • David

I agree with you. There are not any clear boundaries which are very confusing.

      • Fabio

        There are NO boundaries!!!

Now conversations look like an GIANT e-mail and is impossible to find one specific e-mail in a conversation.

PLEASE keep the old gmail look as an option FOREVER!

    • Yes. I don’t like the new look too. The old is very user-friendly and comfortable to me.

      • Susan

Why can’t we have a choice?!!! I hate this new look and have opted to keep the older, better look for as long as I can. Now, they’ve taken away my choice! I agree with all the many, many others who have complained about specific things in the new Gmail. The list of problems is endless. Why do the wishes or likes of the few outweigh the majority of gmail users that really dislike this new look? Do we all just need to go back to aol or hotmail? Does anyone know how to get the old look back?

    • Scott

The new gmail look is disgusting. At least they offer you the ability to temporarily revert to the old style. When you switch back, click the “Tell us why” link and tell them you liked g-mail just fine the way it was! I don’t want to temporarily revert back- I want to permanently revert back to the old style!

    • elspeth mcveigh

Horrible layout… and now they appear to be imposing it on me by degrees…
I have tried to transfer my e mails to yahoo without success… irritating beyond measure.
Google has to admit they have made a major mistake and count their losses.
I am meanwhile trying to get out.

  4. Carol Goughnour

How does one access Contact list now? And I miss the arrows for scrolling….the bar is tiring to my fingers.

    • Under the Gmail logo you’ll notice the word “Mail” with an arrow beside it. Click the arrow and you should see “Contacts” tab displayed.

      • John

That’s just a bad joke. In the same space they had before the three options just to access with one click. Now ANOTHER useless menu for only two options!! Mind blowing! And that’s not all, even more menus on the right, even called similar: Options, Settings… what the heck are these guys thinking. Why not ONE menu accessible via the user name? A bad joke. Very disappointed!!

  5. Larry Clayton

I’m leaving gmail; it’s insulting to require me to try to get used to that clunky
    innovation. Thanks for NOTHING.

    • Larry Clayton

Are you backward compatibility? Apparently not. I couldn’t figure out to go back to my good tried and true gmail. Rats!

      • If you wish to revert back to the old look simply locate your settings menu “The gear in the left corner”, click it. Scroll down and choose “revert to the old look temporarily”.

        • you mean top right for the gear wheel

          • Doh! Yes, you are correct sir.

Thanks for the clarification, my apologies.

          • John

I did it with all my Gmail accounts!
There is not even only one wheel, now you’ve got TWO! Unbelievable, makes me check the calender. Maybe it’s April Fools’ Day in Google-Land… Only explanation I have.

        • Susan

Unfortunately, this no longer works. They’ve taken away that choice—-probably because too many opted out of the new look. Now, we’re stuck!

  6. Paul Weatherford

I need to get into my gmail, because I have information that I need to share with my instructor at Lively Tech. Cen.

    • Gmail’s new look shouldn’t be keeping you out of your email… you might consider emailing support on this matter.

  7. Disappointed

Argh!!!! What a piece of crap! I hate the new gmail, seriously bummed any way to create a local layer or another web based app to just store\search gmail old data. I can not believe they woudl do this to a good product, really disappointed

  8. I’ve been using it for a while. Like most changes, it wasn’t too hard to get used to.

  9. Kourian

    It sucks.

  10. Kourian

IBM: If it works, don’t fix it.
Google: If it works, ruin it.

    • carrie roberts

Love it! it really should be their motto ;)

  11. I hate it. But hey, it’s free software, so they can do whatever they want. I have only one recourse: to find another email service.

  12. Sam Cullan

New Gmail is shit. Looks awful and is impossible to navigate. I’ll be looking for an alternative.

    • What part of the navigation do are you finding troublesome?

      • menu-mania

        * too many useless menus
        * icons without text or just only text like before
        * STAR in different positions depending on view

  13. They are messing it up like facebook did, just put it back!

  14. Gords

Hate it. Going to go to another mail site.

  15. Katy

DO NOT LIKE and DO NOT LIKE THE NEW EMAIL. I think it is horrible that you are forcing it on us. I have loved Google – not so much now

  16. I’m not a fan of Gmails new look, when Gmail first arrived in the market place I really took to it. Over the years it has become more about looks rather than performance. Not for me this new release. People stick with a platform because it works and looks simple. Change isnt always good!

  17. Tech42

Google seems to be making a lot of changes “for your own good” lately.

Why not just leave the preferences to the user? It’s clearly possible as they’ve been doing just that during this transition period.

Here’s a hint, Google: Firefox personas are very popular for a reason – people don’t like being told what they like.

  18. Katy

forgot to say that it functions like yahoo did about 500 years ago. very archaic in appearance and functionality. Also, pictures??? instead of words???? REALLY??? is this to encourage a TOTALLY ignorant society who can’t read?

  19. Change is inevitable. You have to go with it. Took me a lot of years to discover that. lol

  20. MM

It will take practice to get used to the new layout. The old style with the menu on the left side of the page was easier to use. It’s kind of like when you move to a new city…. need to learn your way around or else stay lost and confused. Adapt to your environment.

    • evolution

If it only were like that. But it is not. For example, you HAVE TO click more to get to certain options… it definitely slows down productivity.

  21. David

It Is Google Headed Imagery That Should Have Stayed
The Same!!! It’s Too Iconic!!! It Lacks Personality
    It Sucks. What Spells Relief?
RUN EVERY LAST IDIOT ETERNALLY FARAWAY!
    R E L I E F

  22. brendan blennerhassett

I will not be using your new service ,it’s crap.

  23. I’m a bit shocked that SO many people dislike Gmail’s new look.

    • karl hackbarth

really?? we have a web site and everyone coments on how simple it is no things flying arround bells just simple needed info. The mother of invevtion is to make life easy ( simple ) I agree with many just a simple format so I can do what I need to with out jumping arround

      • Vaughn Akins

Why are you shocked? What you’ve done is provide a platform more screwed up than Yahoo’s latest efforts and forced us to invest enormous time and energy trying to figure out how to do what was simple in the last iteration. I sincerely hope that, before enough folks migrate away in disgust, you’ll figure out that you’ve created a monster that isn’t liked for very good reasons and recant.

    • david eldridge

People like choice. When we are told about a change that offers no obvious benefits and takes us out of our comfort zone, in addition something that is visually inferior, we just ask, why change at all? A straight forward choice would be a reasonable solution. Nothing really new is being offered and punters are being aked to part with a classic which we are proud to be associated with already.

  24. carrie roberts

absolutely hate it!! most of my work is done on a netbook and it’s impossible to scroll to see everything. the fonts are distorted, the themes are too dark and I can’t read my tags and labels. Really looking for a new email program now,

  25. I love it now got use to it, Not really that much different Better than the stupid FB make over

  26. I say bring back the old look. I see what they are trying to do, but it is a real step backward for unsophisticated users.

And you didn’t ask, but I feel pretty much the same way about Lion. It is the first time I am truly disappointed in Apple!

  27. ruby

The black background with white text is difficult to read and hard on the eyes. I am a technical communicator and publisher with 25 years experience developing documentation and website for global users–this is the most difficult combination to use. Please go back to dark type on light background or I’ll have to change my email provider.

  28. Christie

don’t like it – too busy.

  29. I like such interface and he changed already for me …:=)

    • I like it, probably take a little to get used to though
