Reality TV pop-star Carly Rae Jepsen has accomplished quite a bit since the release of her first studio album Tug of War in 2008. Now, the 28-year-old singer-songwriter is soaring to new heights as she prepares to take on the Broadway stage.

According to CBS News, on Sunday Dec. 29, the producers of the revised 1957 Broadway classic Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella announced that Jepsen will take over the lead role starting Feb. 4, 2014. Jepsen will be replacing Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes.

The Canadian singer actually has an extensive history in performing arts as musical theater was one of her focal points in high school. The “Call Me a Maybe” singer starred in notable classic works such as The Wiz and Grease. After high school, Jepsen went on to attend Canadian College of Performing Arts.

People Magazine reports that the Canadian Idol star has even verbally expressed her love and admiration for Broadway and performing arts collectively. She is also elated to star in the classic Broadway play.

“Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl,” said Jepsen. “I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale.”

Jepsen also spoke with The New York Times, via email, about her new starring role. She accredited her love for the romantic Cinderella storyline as the reason for selecting the timeless musical to make her Broadway debut.

“It’s so hopeful and inspiring,” she said. “I’ve always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely.” She also took to Twitter to share her big announcement with fans yesterday.

Jepsen will be joining the Cinderella cast alongside Emmy Award winner Fran Drescher. Her Broadway run will be for a duration of 12 weeks at the Broadway Theater in New York.
