A Maine family is in shock this week after a father accidentally ran over his 6-year-old son with a snow plow truck.

The Portland Press Herald is reporting that Kevin Capponi of Greene, Maine was plowing snow from his driveway on Wednesday when he backed over his son, Nathan. The accident occurred at around 6:45 am.

Nathan is reported to have been playing with a scooter in the driveway at around 6:45 am when the accident took place. The child was later pronounced dead at a Lewiston hospital.

The family has not yet given interviews to the media about the event, but Kevin Capponi has updated his Facebook page to reflect the tragedy. He updated his cover photo and profile picture, which are now both pictures of Nathan. He also linked to a story about the incident, saying: “here is the story everyone…please forgive me and my family…I love him with all my heart…it is now broken.”

In response to his Facebook post Capponi has received well-wishes and reassurance from friends and family.

The family has not yet given interviews to the media about the event? Event? This wasn’t a wedding ffs! Why would they talk to the media at all? I don’t even get why Facebook needed to be updated. This is a personal family tragedy. My heart breaks for them.

Yes, but honestly, as much as I feel for this family, this is another example of parental carelessness. Who in the heck let’s their son play on a scooter in the wee hours of the morning while their dad is operating such a dangerous machine. The mother should have paid attention to what he was doing and the father should have been more careful…these types of accidents CAN be prevented by just paying attention to your kid at ALL TIMES!

      • linda

wow ur pretty ignorant to say that its either of there faults

        • Alilly

How is it NOT the parents fault? YOU’RE pretty ignorant to say it’s not. Who plows their driveway while their kid is PLAYING IN IT??

        • Hollie

Linda, I agree, a parent CANNOT watch their child every second of the day. No one knows the situation to pass such harsh judgement. Not to mention, 6:45am isn’t too ‘wee in the hours’ around here since my children catch the school bus at that time.

          • Linda

Hollie, My kids are grown now but I remember those snow days that we were out at 6ish playing. I never had kids that slept in so I didn’t consider “wee” hours for anytime after 5am. My heart goes out to this father, as it’s something he’ll never forget.

      • Boo

Don’t waste your time….it’s always someone elses fault in today’s America.

      • Laurel

It’s not carelessness. No parent knows where their child is 24/7 once that child is able to get around on their own two feet (or even crawling sometimes). If they think they do, they’re clueless or suffocating their child.

        • Sandy

Laurel when my children (twins) we 6 I knew EXACTLY where they were AT ALL TIMES. I lived in Idaho for 7 years and we had snow plows come by our house all the time. My mother always told me how dangerous they were. This is such a terrible story and my heart does go out to this family, but IMO it is parent error.

      • Pat

Im sorry but saying “God will comfort you” to a guy that just killed his son? Not that he will remember anything anyone is saying at this time, but please just be with him and remain silent. Sometimes silence can be very loud.

    • jim

      Well put james!!

Instead of condeming how about supporting a hurtting family.I have five boys amd trust me no matter how good u watch they can escape in a heart beat their concept of danger is totaly different then adults so just pray for them and remember IT COULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF YOURS

  • Karen

Anyone with a child knows that children sometimes have a mind of their own… you cannnot give them every moment of your time or attention… it is just the way it is. I could not imagine their pain and the blame they place on themselves… it is much heavier than anything anyone else could even think up… give them space and the time to grieve; as grieve they must… Prayers to heaven on their behalf.

  • Pat

The mom and dad are in mourning. Shame on you.

My heart goes out the the parents and family. This is a very diffucult time for them. I have two grown children I cannot imagine something like this happening to me.I’ll be praying for them thru this difficult time. No one knows how the father feels or what he is going thu if you have not been thru it yourself. God will give him all the love, confort, strenghth thur this diffucult, because God knows. This is a time to lift the family up in prayer not tear them down with critizim. No one is perfect we all make mistakes. If you have children you should thank God it was not yours.
