Former First Lady Barbara Bush celebrated her 89th birthday yesterday surrounded by her closest family and friends.
According to the Bush's spokesperson, Barbara held a low-key dinner at her summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine on Sunday.
Barbara served as the First Lady from 1989 to 1993, alongside her husband, former president George H.W. Bush. Barbara and George are the parents to two sons, former president George W. Bush and governor Jeb Bush.
Barbara is not the only one celebrating a birthday this week. On Thursday, George will celebrate his 90th birthday in a similar fashion as his wife. The family will have a intimate dinner in their summer home with their family, according to the spokesperson.

Five years ago, on his 85th birthday, George went skydiving and vowed that he would do it again on his 90th birthday. However, it looks like he will have to pass on the adventure. George is currently not in good health and is having to use a wheelchair to get around, so it would be hard for him to manage jumping out of a plane.

Barbara's health seems to be ailing too. In January 2014, Barbara had to be hospitalized at the Methodist Hospital in Houston for a respiratory-related issue. It was later confirmed that Barbara was suffering from a bout of pneumonia.
“She is in great spirits, has already received visits from her husband and family, and is receiving fantastic care,” a statement from the Bush's spokesperson Jim McGrath said at the time.
