Zooey Deschanel has found success in recent years in film, television, and music; now, she’s ready to turn her talents to textiles.
The 33-year old “New Girl” actress has designed a charming capsule collection with Tommy Hilfiger which will debut this spring with colors and styles that evoke a mid-’60s summer. The Americana-style palette holds a lot of red, white, and blue, but the collection is all about the little vintage details.
“They are Sixties-inspired short dresses,” Hilfiger said. “There is a lot of red, white and blue, but done in a Zooey way with interesting detail and flirty fabrics. They are very Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy — really from the Sixties in London. That’s not something we would normally put in our regular sportswear line — maybe we’d be inspired by the Sixties for the runway, but it’s a new way to look at fun, American classics.”
The idea for a collaboration came when the duo met at a party and Hilfiger complimented the actress on the vintage jumpsuit she was wearing. From that moment, a friendship was born, as well as a creative spark. Last year, work began on the designs for sixteen dresses.
“I am a fashion fanatic, and I am always looking for new ways to incorporate vintage, feminine pieces into my own wardrobe,” Deschanel said. “Tommy and I share many of the same inspirations — old-school music, classic films and old Hollywood icons — and his guidance during the design process helped to put a really unique twist on each piece.”
The collection will debut on April 14, and will be available at Macy’s and through Hilfiger’s official website. The pieces will run between $98 and $199.
