Will Rhymes, infielder for the Tampa Bay Rays and the guy with one of the coolest names in the MLB, collapsed during the Boston Red Sox game last night after taking a 95-mph pitch to the arm. Although Rhymes seemed to initially shake off the injury, he was soon became wobbly, which immediately caught the attention of first base coach George Hendrick.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Rhymes likely collapsed due to the adrenaline rush that accompanied the injury. After having the arm checked out by officials — only a bruise, folks, not a break — the Rays infielder is expected to be okay.
After the game, Rhymes spoke briefly about the incident, stating that he felt dizzy and nauseous as he made his way to first base. “You saw the rest. Apparently I didn’t get real far,” he explained. “My lights went out.”
Tampa Bay went on to beat Boston 2-1. Rhymes, of course, is taking a fair amount of ribbing from the folks who spend their entire life on Twitter. A fair and balanced mixture of comments can be found beneath the embedded video.
