Wii U Launch Date, Price Announced for U.S.

Today Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime took to the stage in New York and officially announced the price and release date for the new Wii U console. The console was already officially announced in Japan hours ago, but the Nintendo presentation in New York also showed off several launch titles, demonstrating how Nintendo thinks players will use the Wii U’s tablet controller.

First off, the launch date for the Wii U in the U.S. is November 18th. This matches a rumor that came out only a few weeks ago. Also close to what a different rumor held, the Wii U will come in two different versions, the basic set and the deluxe.

The basic set comes with a Wii U that has an 8GB hard drive, Wii U GamePad, sensor bar, and HDMI cable. It comes in white and will retail for $299.99.

The deluxe version comes with all the same things the basic set has, but adds a 32GB hard drive, charging cradle for the GamePad, a stand, and NintendoLand, Nintendo’s mini-game demonstration of what the Wii U can do. It comes in black and will retail for $349.99.

As for launch titles, Nintendo so far has mentioned New Super Mario Bros. U, NintendoLand, and LEGO City Undercover, a funny parody of gritty 70’s cop movies in the form of a LEGO game. LEGO City Undercover comes with a LEGO figurine of the main character for customers who preorder.
