Although it isn’t scheduled for release until the summer of 2015, details about the sequel to last summer’s billion-dollar smash, The Avengers, have been leaking out. Up until Comic-Con 2013, the majority of the news concerned some new characters that Joss Whedon will be introducing, including Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Rumors about an Ant-Man appearance have been heard as well, and now, with the introduction of what appears to be the primary villain for the Avengers sequel, coupled with the Ant-Man movie coming out after the Avengers sequel, it stands to reason the character will get a cameo, at the very least.

The news about the new villain was revealed during the Marvel panel of Comic-Con, as well as the movie’s title screen, an image of which leads this post. Once revealed, the direction of Joss Whedon’s return trip to Marvel’s world will be going in. The new enemy, Ultron, is a Marvel favorite, as well as being incredibly formidable, at least in the print version. With that in mind, if Whedon is going to include the character in the movie’s main title, it stands to reason the on-screen Ultron will be every bit as powerful as the comic book version.

Arguably the greatest and certainly the most horrific creation of scientific genius Dr. Henry Pym, Ultron is a criminally insane rogue sentient robot dedicated to conquest and the extermination of humanity…

As indicated, Pym is the character that becomes Ant-Man. Anyway, Ultron is equipped with an Adamantium shell, making it pretty damn indestructible. Naturally, the details of how far Whedon will go with the character are unknown at this team, but with the news that Thanos will also be making another appearance in the Avengers sequel, it’s clear the director has his sights set on much bigger picture than simply having the team of super heroes fighting an insane robot with armor made out of the same stuff as Wolverine’s skeleton.

Update: Unless Whedon is trying to mislead people, a very real possibility considering the nature of the movie, the Ant-Man origin will not apart of the sequel:

Well, because there was a book called ‘Age of Ultron’ quite recently, a lot of people have assumed that is what we’re doing, but that is not the case. We’re doing our own version of the origin story for Ultron. In the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed that he will be in the mix. He’s not. We’re basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside.
