Victoria Azarenka, the Belarussian tennis player, has withdrawn from the Qatar Total Open in Doha next week, due to an ongoing foot injury.

This comes as a blow for Azarenka, as she has won this event for the past two years. She released a statement apologizing to her fans for not being able to attend.

“I am sorry I can’t make it to Doha for the Qatar Total Open, but unfortunately I haven’t been able to recover on time from my ongoing foot injury,” Azarenka said.

“I am thankful to all my fans in Doha and I look forward to coming back next year. I wish the best of luck to the tournament and hope that fans enjoy watching the other players that will be coming to that great event.”

Last month, Victoria competed in the Australian Open located in Melbourne, Australia, from January 13, 2014 to January 26, 2014. During the first round, Azarenka took on Johanna Larsson and landed a win with final scores of 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Then in the second round she defeated Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Again, she pocketed a win against Yvonne Meusburger with a score of 6-1, 6-0. In the fourth round, she won the match against Sloane Stephens, finishing with 6-3, 6-2. Despite her amazing start, Victoria fell short during the quarterfinals, taking a loss to Agnieszka Radwanska, with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 0-6.

Just in 2014, Victoria has already won $344,255 in prize money, and she currently has seven wins and two losses.
