Vicki Gunvalson Slams Engagement Rumors, Names Wrong Source

Vicki Gunvalson and Brooks Ayers are not engaged. Vicki Gunvalson wants you to know that, and she seems pretty upset that anyone would suggest such a thing.

Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson took to her Facebook page today, and broadcast that message via Twitter, to let everyone know that those outlets who tell you such “blatant lies” are wrong.

“Contrary to this morning’s media reports I am NOT engaged nor planning to get married at this time. Brooks’ cancer diagnosis has nothing to do with the status of our relationship. It saddens me that media outlets like The Inquistr will publish such blatant lies to attract more visitors to their website. I have always been very honest and forth coming on the show, and with my fans ,and if something this important were true you would be the first to know.”

Gunvalson specifically named The Inquisitr in her post. She also tweeted her ire at the outlet.

But it looks like she is mad at the wrong source. The article she appears to be referring to specifically was titled:

Briana Culberson Is Seeing Red: Could Vicki Gunvalson Get Married To Brooks Ayers?

But within that article, it is made very clear that the source of the rumor is actually Radar Online.

“According to a new Radar Online report, Briana Culberson is not thrilled with the idea of her mother possibly getting married again, especially not to a man who she really doesn’t like.”

The article referenced past Inquisitr reports about Gunvalson’s relationship with Ayers, saying:

“According to the Inquisitr, the relationship is supposedly better than ever, as the cancer has brought them closer. But maybe there is still a long way to the altar. Maybe Briana Culberson can relax a little because he doesn’t seem too eager to marry Vicki.”

It was Radar Online that claimed to have an “insider” feeding them info on Gunvalson and Ayers.

“Vicki has been talking marriage with Brooks, and wants to make it official,” an insider told Radar. “She truly believes that Brooks is meant to be her partner for the rest of their lives. Her kids are grown and have lives of their own, and she is head over heels in love with Brooks.”

“However, Brooks isn’t ready to take the next step because of his cancer diagnosis,” the insider revealed. “He wants to be given the all clear from his doctors before marrying Vicki. He is ready to make his life in Orange County with Vicki permanent, but won’t do so until the cancer is gone or in remission.”

The mix-up is somewhat understandable. Gunvalson may have been told by someone that they had read about the supposed engagement in Inquisitr. But there is a huge industry around reporting “news about rumors.” Some find this distasteful, but there is a very large audience for it. Many of those readers may well be the same people Vicki Gunvalson and the Real Housewives franchise counts on to keep their enterprises afloat.

While many rumors turn out to be nothing, one of the largest news stories so far this year incubated and smoldered in the world of “news about rumor.” There were many reports that Bruce Jenner was planning to announce his life as a transgender woman. There was talk of reality TV shows starring Jenner. These reports were denied, decried, and derided.

But Caitlyn Jenner is now everyday headlines, including her I Am Cait reality show.

Maybe Gunvalson isn’t all that angry at Inquisitr or Radar Online. After all, they keep her in the public eye, and her show in conversations.

Contrary to this morning's media reports I am NOT engaged nor planning to get married at this time. Brooks' cancer…
