Assassin’s Creed III introduced a lot of elements to the franchise that mostly garnered a resounding “meh” from gamers, but most can agree that its introduction of ship battles was definitely the highlight. That enthusiasm for naval combat may have been the reason Ubisoft turned to pirates in this year’s title.
Today, Ubisoft released a new trailer for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag that shows off the game’s pirate gameplay and naval combat. Like any good pirate, players will spend a lot of their free time hunting treasure that they find on maps. Some of the treasure that you find will help you upgrade your ship to take on the tougher naval challenges.
Some people will claim that they are becoming tired of Assassin’s Creed, and that’s a valid argument. Others argue that pirate games are passé, but that one’s a little harder to defend. It’s rare that we get a pirate game, let alone a good one; and Assassin’s Creed IV is looking to be a good pirate game.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will launch on October 29 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U. It will also be a launch title for the Xbox One and PS4.
