Sarah Burke, famed skier and six-time X Games gold medalist, passed away Thursday due to injuries sustained during a skiing accident.

Her obituary states that she was the first female freeskier and that she successfully lobbied the Winter X Games to include females on equal footing in freeskiing events.

The outpouring of support on Twitter has been tremendous with people remembering her life and accomplishments.
