Twitter announced today that it has hired former Ticketmaster boss Nathan Hubbard as its new Head of Commerce.

He will report to Twitter’s revenue head, Adam Bain, and will reportedly work to make online shopping something people do with Twitter.

Bloomberg spoke with Hubbard, and offered these quotes from him:

“We’re going to go to people who have stuff to sell and help them use Twitter to sell it more effectively.”

“One of the hallmarks of Twitter’s entire approach has been partnering. We’re going to take the same approach with owners of physical and digital goods.”

Earlier this month, Twitter announced a new capability called “offline sales impact” that it provides to advertisers through a partnership with Datalogix. This lets them measure the impact of Twitter campaigns on offline sales. The company already offers additional Analytics, so an increased focus on ecommerce seems like a logical next step.

The marketing power of Vine, which Twitter acquired this year, can’t hurt the company’s ecommerce efforts either.

As Bloomberg notes, the company is expected to go public within the next year, and it will need additional revenue sources.
