Over the past couple years, Netflix has consistently netted award show nominations (and some wins) for its original content like House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black. And though the Emmys, Golden Globes, and the like have smiled upon Netflix – they hadn’t yet shown any love for Amazon and its original Prime Instant Video offerings.
Until Sunday night.
The Amazon original Transparent had a huge night. Not only did the series win best TV series comedy or musical, but its star Jeffrey Tambor won best actor in a TV comedy as well.
Sunday marked the first time Amazon was nominated for a major award. It beat out Netflix in the best TV series comedy category (Orange Is The New Black).
The show, a half-hour “novelistic” series that explores the lives of a family and its transgender patriarch, saw “record-breaking” viewing, according to Amazon. A second season was ordered almost immediately after the first one premiered to both critical and user acclaim.
