When Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers discovered last week that five of their guitars–including Petty’s 1967 blonde maple Rickenbacker–were missing right before the beginning of their tour, they were upset, and with good reason; the instruments were valued at around $100,000.
The band issued a plea on Facebook and Twitter for the help of anyone with information on the theft, offering a $7500 reward with no questions asked pending their safe return.
http://t.co/qtkPdyvv no questions asked and a reward is offered. Thanks all.
Anyone with information, it would be appreciatedOn Monday, 51-year old security guard Daryl Washington was arrested for the theft after selling one of the guitars to a Hollywood pawn shop; the other four instruments were later found in his possession. He had apparently stolen them from a soundstage where they were rehearsing for their upcoming tour. While it hasn’t been released how much he got for the pawned guitar, it wasn’t enough; not only is he in jail, he’s also got a team of Petty’s fans giving him a collective virtual stink-eye.
@tompetty ?? Can you help find ’em? http://t.co/Zytg33ry
Wow. What a-holes. Who would steal guitars from@tompetty‘s guitars, I hope your own conscience eats you alive. Or the friends you brag to turn you in.
Whoever stole@tompetty. Stealing from him is like stealing from my dad. NOT COOL. #TPHBstolenguitars – http://t.co/rFUkWIEx
