Tom Hanks Plays Monk in Jimmy Kimmel Oscars Special

  • Tom Hanks is just one of many A-list celebrities who will take the stage during Jimmy Kimmel’s After the Oscars special, which airs on Sunday, right after the Academy Awards ends. Of course it will likely be close to if not well into Monday morning by that point, so set your DVRs if you don’t plan on staying up that late.

Hanks plays the role of a Franciscan monk in the special. In one scene he carries a candle and walks down a dark hallway to a cell, where he speaks to Liam Hemsworth.

“He is coming for you,” Hanks warns the “prisoner,” who replies, “Then let him come.”

“As you wish, my son,” the monk says.

Sources say this year’s special will be Jimmy Kimmel’s best–and that’s saying a lot. The 2012 and 2013 shows are hard ones to beat. Given his cast of characters, however, there’s no way viewers won’t love what he’s put together.

Kevin Spacey is the main guest for the after-Oscars show, with at the very least some cameo appearances by Ellen DeGeneres, who is this year’s Oscars host, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt, Queen Latifah, Andy Garcia, Seth Rogen, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, and more. The list of those who might appear is clearly endless.

Tom Hanks recently went back in time to his Forrest Gump days when he appeared before a group of wounded U.S. veterans that CSI: New York star and Forrest Gump costar Gary Sinise gathered at Paramount Studios following a trip to Disneyland. Hanks mingled with the veterans, chatting with them about both their sacrifices and his role in Forrest Gump.

Will you tune in after the Oscars to see Tom Hank portray a Franciscan monk? It definitely sounds like his role and those of the many others scheduled to appear will make it well worth everyone’s while to lose a couple of extra hours of sleep. Just order a shot of espresso to pour into that large cup of Monday morning coffee.
