Tom Cruise is currently involved in a lawsuit against Bauer Publishing–the group which publishes In Touch and Life & Style Magazines–for covers which claim he has abandoned his daughter, Suri, following his divorce from Katie Holmes. A copy of the deposition has been made public, and it looks like Cruise has admitted that Scientology did play a part in the dissolution of his marriage to Holmes, as has been widely speculated.

While Cruise says that there were many aspects to the divorce, he also agreed that one of the reasons for their split was that Holmes didn’t want Suri involved in the church.

“There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion,” he said, but “That was one of the assertions, yes.”

The documents also talk about how Cruise was unable to see Suri for about three months following his separation from Holmes due to his film schedule in London and missed her first day of school.

“If she had asked me to be there, I would have been there I would have worked it out in any way I could,” he said. “Things change and there is different agreements, like in any divorce, where you work out schedules. It’s just a different set of circumstances. It certainly does not mean that I’ve abandoned my daughter.”

Cruise admits that while he is in the public eye and has come to terms with the fact that his life will always be speculated upon, he won’t allow his daughter to be involved in the gossip.

“I am a public person, I absolutely understand. For me there is — I tolerate a tremendous amount and I am very privileged to be able to have the life that I have and I believe that. But there is a line that I draw for myself and … and that’s it,” he said.
