TNT’s awesomely-crazy “Push To Add Drama” ad has become a viral hit of massive proportions, rivaling only Volkswagen’s “Darth Vader” Super Bowl commercial that took the Internet by storm. The 1:46 gem is an exercise in entertaining chaos as ambulances, street brawls, attempted abductions, and shoot outs with the police are featured.
The wild ride of an ad, according to Mashable’s viral video chart, is the second-most shared commercial of all time, trailing only the aforementioned Volkswagen/Darth Vader runaway hit. To further demonstrate the video’s incredible popularity, since being uploaded on YouTube on April 11, it has already amassed over 21 million views, and is quickly closing in on the 22 million views threshold.
There’s also something of a Like/Dislike war going on over at the ad’s YouTube page, but the “Likes” have the overwhelming advantage, outnumbering the dislikes, 210,074 to 2,126.
Incidentally, Turner Broadcasting created the commercial to advertise their channel in Belgium. The description reveals the strategy:
To launch the high quality TV channel TNT in Belgium we placed a big red push button on an average Flemish square of an average Flemish town. A sign with the text “Push to add drama” invited people to use the button. And then we waited…
The question I have is this, if someone put one of these in a public place you frequent, would you push it? You’d almost have to, right?
