Have you been getting campaign emails from anyone this primary season? Or, to put it more bluntly, who here made the mistake of signing up for an email list?
Okay, not all campaign emails are bad. If you are (or want to be) active in the campaign of one of the candidates, these emails can let you know important information like times and dates for rallies, speaking gigs, and how you can help with the cause. Usually, the answer to that last question is money.
The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart already took the Obama campaign to task for some of their email strategies. He lampooned the Prez’s strategy of flippantly using things like “Hey” in the subject line and then taking no maneuverings around the fact that he wanted money.
Email marketing company Silverpop looked at some emails from President Obama’s possible challengers, and analyzed the respective strategies of Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, and Paul. And the first thing that they found was that Ron Paul was really wordy.
After looking at over 200 campaign emails ranging from January 9th to the present, they determined the average word count from each candidate. Romney’s emails are the shortest on average, Santorum and Gingrich’s are about the same (400 words), and Ron Paul led the pack with over 550 words on average.
Like I said before, money is the main goal of these emails – and Rick Santorum was the most forward about that. The former Pennsylvania Senator had the most “clear requests for donations via email.”
