A town in North Carolina called Henry River Mill Village, that was used as the District 12 set of the blockbuster film “The Hunger Games” is now Google+Reader” target=”_blank”>for sale for $1.4 million. The desolate ‘town’ of 72 acres sits roughly 70 miles east of Asheville, near Hildebran, off of Interstate 40.
Below is a short video that documents the property and its history:
Owner Wade Shepard, 83, says he’s too old, and that his property gets “too many visitors,” and that he isn’t cashing in on a piece of the biggest Hollywood movie so far this year. He was originally asking $1.8 million for the land, which is extraordinarily high for 72 acres in that area of North Carolina, but speculates that the price might end up being a steal – Lionsgate still has 2 more Hunger Games movies to shoot, and would likely want to come back to the location. And if this doesn’t work out, surely there are fans who would pay to take a tour. King’s Cross Station in London is now and international treasure due to Harry Potter. Perhaps Henry River will follow suit – though this seems extremely unlikely.
The property has a bit of a Chernobyl thing going on, and Wade Shepard’s olden tales of drugs and prostitution add to its charm.
