Texas meteorologist Patrick Crawford was shot several times in the parking lot of the KCEN television station on Wednesday morning in Waco, and police reportedly have a man in custody.

Crawford and the man had words in the lot, then the man allegedly pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and shot him several times before fleeing. Crawford was able to get in his car and drive down the road, where he ultimately crashed. Construction workers were able to help him, however, and according to local news sources he has undergone surgery in a nearby hospital. Police have not released the name of the suspect or a motive.

“Crawford was getting into his car this morning after leaving the building and the subject walked up to him and they had a confrontation,” Trooper D.L. Wilson said. “Whether they know each other or it’s a random shooting, we don’t know that yet.”

The station and nearby schools were placed on lockdown while officials searched for the gunman, who was found barricaded in a home about a mile and a half from the station.

Police say they aren’t sure at this time whether the suspect works at the station or not.
