The former middle school basketball coach who admitted to sexually abusing one of her students after she was confronted over the phone has been arrested and now faces 16 counts of abuse, including 5 counts of aggravated sexual assault on a minor.

Andrea Cardosa was confronted by her former student, 28-year old Jamie Carrillo, over the phone as Carrillo recorded the exchange. She later posted the entire conversation to YouTube.

“I am 28 years old and have been waiting years to get up enough courage to report a teacher for sexually abusing me for years,” Jamie’s caption on her YouTube video reads. “When I finally got up enough courage to report her, I found out that the statute of limitations was up and she will never have to pay for the things that she did to me.”

She decided she wanted answers, however, and placed the call.

“I was only 12 years old when I met you,” Carrillo says. “You realize you brainwashed me and you manipulated me? And that what you did was wrong?”

“Yes,” Cardosa responds. “And I regret it.”

Carrillo says that the abuse began when she was just 12 years old and lasted until she was 20. She says Cardosa threatened to harm herself if Carrillo told anyone about what was going on. Now, a second student has come forward with allegations of abuse, and her claims have been taken into consideration for the charges Cardosa now faces.

“There was no doubt, that was her,” the woman, who hasn’t been identified, said after seeing Jamie’s video. “I saw myself in Jamie. I saw myself as if I was talking to her. Our stories are exactly, extremely, extremely alike. And I never realized that as a child but, now that I’m older and a little more mature, everything changed and I see what was going on.”

Cardosa was the assistant principal at Alhambra High School when the video went viral, but resigned soon after. She could face life in prison if convicted.
