It is no secret that Taylor Swift is a country music super star, but now she is to be awarded one of the most prestigious awards in country music history: the Pinnacle Award.
Swift will accept the award on November 6 during the 47th Country Music Awards ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. The award was created in 2005 to “recognize an artist who has achieved both national and international prominence through concert performances and record sales at levels unique in Country Music.” The only other recipient of the award was Garth Brooks in 2005.
“I can’t think of a better opportunity than ‘Country Music’s Biggest Night™’ to present an award of this magnitude to an artist of this caliber,” said CMA President of the Board, Ed Hardy. “I’ve known Taylor since she was 16. She came to my office with her Mom to play her music and I was amazed. Taylor’s outstanding career epitomizes the definition of the Pinnacle Award.”
Not only is she receiving the Pinnacle Award, she is also up for Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Musical Event, and Music Video of the Year.
Her newest album, “Red”, sold more than 1.2 million albums the first week, and with that album, she became the first woman in music history to have an album meet the 1 million sales mark twice (the first was her 2010 album “Speak Now”).
Swift is also scheduled to perform during the CMAs with Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer and Eric Darken.
The CMAs will air live Wednesday on ABC from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
