Taylor Swift is so beloved by her fans that when an iTunes glitch left 8 seconds of static in place of her new single, it shot to the top of Canada’s charts.

The pop/country star’s new album, 1989, won’t be released until October 27, but “Track 3” was put up on iTunes on Tuesday morning, and many fans downloaded it eagerly without listening first. A frenzied confusion followed, with many people taking to Twitter and Facebook for answers as to why their new song was white noise.

Swift and Apple have so far been silent on what exactly happened, and although the track isn’t downloadable anymore, it’s still sitting at the top of iTunes’ charts.

While gossip sites and fashion magazines may make her life look glamorous and fun, the busy star opened up recently to Esquire Magazine about the darker side of fame and said she recently had to hire security personnel to be with her when she’s in public, something she fought against for a long time due to her need for a normal life.

“I fought the idea of having security for a very long time, because I really value normalcy. I really do. I like to be able to take a drive by myself. Haven’t done that in six years. They have to be in a car behind me. Because just the sheer number of men we have in a file who have showed up at my house, showed up at my mom’s house, threatened to either kill me, kidnap me, or marry me,” she said.

Swift says she tries not to dwell too much on the things that might scare someone else into hiding, because she doesn’t want to be scared.

“This is the strange and sad part of my life that I try not to think about. I try to be lighthearted about it, because I don’t ever want to be scared. I don’t want to be walking down the street scared. And when I have security, I don’t have to be scared.”
