Sweden’s Princess Madeline is officially engaged to New York banker Chris O’Neill, who is originally from the U.K. He says he’s learning to speak her country’s language, but that it is “difficult”.
“Madeleine and I have known each other for two years and I recently summoned up the courage to ask her to marry me. Thankfully she said yes,” he said in a video announcing the news on the royal website. He later addressed the language barrier, saying “I can say some Swedish phrases and am in the process of taking lessons so that I may speak fluently in due course.”
Princess Madeline said that Christopher actually proposed at the beginning of this month, but the couple wanted to keep the news to themselves in order to retain privacy for a bit.
“Chris proposed to me at the beginning of October. It was a very romantic and intimate proposal, but more details about the proposal we want to keep to ourselves,” Princess Madeline said. “I appreciate Chris for his warmth and his humour. He has a very big heart and he manages to make everyone in his presence feel good. Christopher is a very thoughtful and generous person.”
