Attleboro police said that the man was viewed from Wamsutta Middle School on Locust Street, just before noon. Wamsutta, as well as Hyman Fine Elementary, were promptly put on lockdown, as police investigated.

Massachusetts State Police said via Twitter that K-9 units and the Air Wing were brought in to the investigation.

Attleboro police described the man their searching for:

Wamsutta was dismissed at about 2:30 p.m., and Hyman Fine was dismissed at 3:30 p.m. Concerned citizens in the area also took to Twitter:

Sadly, large response tactics are put in place for a reason. Attleboro Sgt. Arthur Brillon stated, “If we err, we’d prefer to err on the side of caution.”
