At 67 years old, veteran actress Susan Sarandon has become a grandmother for the first time. Sarandon’s daughter gave birth on August 9 to a baby girl named Marlowe Mae, who weighed 6 lb., 11 oz.

Sarandon had daughter Eva, 29, with Italian director Franco Amurri. According to Time Out New York , her pregnancy was a surprise to her because she was diagnosed with endometriosis and was told that she couldn’t have children. She also admitted that during that time in her life she never used birth control. On becoming a grandmother, Sarandon said, “I feel a little like I did when I was pregnant…part of your brain can’t wrap itself around the idea that your child, that your daughter, is going to have a daughter. I mean, it’s just so beautiful and huge.”

She told People, however, that she doesn’t expect to be called “grandma” by baby Marlowe and instead wants to be called “Honey”.

“I borrowed this name from a very dear friend of mine who’s from the South, and his grandma was ‘Honey’. That’s what I’m experimenting with, and Eva likes it, so we’ll see,” said Sarandon.

The Thelma and Louise actress has been excited about the birth of baby Marlowe and bought her daughter a few things for her newborn child. She told Us about a particular gliding chair she had bought. “I had used a rocking chair, but now they have these chairs that glide. You can sleep in it practically. So that’s what she got for her birthday from me,” she said. 

“I think that even when I was having a baby myself and even after I had two babies myself, that you can’t even grasp the reality of it until that baby is there.” said Sarandon. Sarandon’s daughter, Eva, was born in 1985 and is the first of three children. She later had two sons (Jack, 25, and Miles, 22) with ex-partner Tim Robbins.

Amurri welcomed her baby girl with husband Kyle Martino, a sports analyst, who tweeted when baby Marlowe was born, “Can’t believe I’m a dad!!! @4EvaMartino and I are over the moon in love with our little girl Marlowe. #Love.” The couple married in October 2011 and announced their pregnancy in February this year. A representative said that the actress and sports analyst are “thrilled and enjoying the new addition to their family.”
