Amber Kariolich, Amy Sabani and Sarah Seckinger never knew that their lives would be touched by a stranger.

While working their waitress shift at the Boone County Family Restaurant in Caledonia, IL a middle-aged woman asked for their names. They politely replied, still not knowing why the woman eating an omelet at the counter wanted to know.

After a few minutes had passed, the girls finally realized why the stranger wanted to know such information as she handed them each a check for $5,000. The woman explained to them that she had overheard their conversation about bills and “life stuff.”

“She presented it to us and said to put it in our pockets and use it for school or whatever we needed,” Seckinger said.

Overcome by the stranger’s generosity, 21-year-old Seckinger said the girls instantly started crying.

After the girls insisted the woman not pay for her $9 breakfast, the stranger hurried out not wanting to cause a scene.

Restaurant owner, Matt Nebiu, called the bank after the woman left, making sure that the checks were real. And they were.

“We are in a small population of a town and we’ve been here for 30-some years and for people to do that you know that there’s nice people out there,” said Nebiu.
