President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, better known as “Obamacare,” had a tough day in court Wednesday. The Supreme Court that is. It looks like the President’s brainchild, which would mandate health insurance for all U.S. citizens, is going to get raked over the coals.
A decision on the case will not be handed down until this summer, but Stephen Colbert’s already willing to call it. In his singular over-the-top yet tongue-in-cheek style, Colbert “celebrated” the impending death of Obamacare at the hands of the Supreme Court. “It was killed by nine people in black robes. I told you there would be death panels!” he said on his show last night. Colbert also blasted elements of the debate on the Affordable Care Act, particularly the media’s and Justice Scalia’s conflation of healthcare and broccoli, and Justice Alito’s assertion that a health insurance mandate would open the door for other mandatory insurances — like burial insurance.
But I don’t want to spoil all the fun. Here’s the clip from last night’s episode.
Is Obamacare really dead? Is Stephen Colbert a demigod with prescient insights? Do you like broccoli? Let us know what’s up.
