Stella McCartney has quite a loyal following with her chic designs, and as someone who’s been in the fashion business for many years, she’s something of an expert on the power of good clothing. To prove it, she sat down with a crowd of admirers at “An Evening With Stella McCartney” last week and fielded questions from Jerry Seinfeld, who wondered what the point of fashion is.
“What’s the difference what anybody wears, anyway?” Seinfeld asked.
“The difference is that what you wear reflects who you are and how you feel. It also keeps you warm, and it means you’re not naked in public,” McCartney answered. Then, when Seinfeld questioned why women need any more empowerment, she replied, “I think it’s more an inner power, Jerry. Inner power. That’s what I’ve decided, since I’ve been sitting in this chair.”
The evening was a night to celebrate McCartney and her body of work, and several famous faces were in attendance, including Paul, Yoko Ono, and Olivia and Dhani Harrison.
Seinfeld has been in the headlines himself recently after he told Brian Williams during an interview that he feels he may be on the autism spectrum.
“You know, never paying attention to the right things. Basic social engagement is really a struggle. I’m very literal. When people talk to me and they use expressions, sometimes I don’t know what they’re saying. But I don’t see it as dysfunctional. I just think of it as an alternate mindset,” he explained.
Seinfeld’s announcement was met with mixed feelings as some hoped it would bring attention to the disorders that plague so many people, while others thought it might distract from them.
