There have been numerous rumors surrounding the casting of the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7 film, and now fans are finally greeted with a sure thing for a character that has not been seen on screen before. Details surrounding the the character are limited, but it is said that the villain will share similarities to the iconic Darth Vader.

Not much has been revealed about the plot of the upcoming 7th installment in the Star Wars franchise, but it was rumored that it might focus on the children of Princess Lea and Han Solo.

The film has taken some turns during production, and has been delayed, due to a change in the screenwriter, although fans of the original trilogy are pleased to know that Lawrence Kasdan has returned to write the script. J.J. Abrams will be directing the film.

Adam Driver can currently bee seen on the third season of the hit HBO comedy/drama Girls, where he plays the boyfriend to Lena Dunham’s Hannah, who is the star of the show.

Michael Fassbender had tried out for the same part last year, and both Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman have also been considered for the role of a villain in the film. Big time actors such as Zac Efron and Ryan Gosling have both been linked to the role of Luke Skywalker’s son.

In the past year, he appeared on on the big screen in Inside Llewyn Davis, and Frances Ha, which earned Greta Gerwig a Golden Globe nomination. He has also been cast in the films This Is Where I Leave You, Hungry Hearts, While We’re Young, and Silence.

After it was announced that driver would be filling the role of the main villain in Star Wars Episode 7, it was revealed that he was actually the producer’s first choice all along, but the casting had taken such a long time due to his scheduling conflicts.

It was unclear whether being in Star Wars Episode 7 would complicate things for him in season 4, and future seasons of Girls, but with the recent announcement, it seems that he was able to find a way around it. The film begins filming at Pinewood Studios in May.

There seems to be no end in the amount of casting rumors and additions to the upcoming Star Wars Episode 7, and the addition of Adam Driver certainly makes things more interesting.
