Fox News this week announced that actress Stacey Dash has been hired as a contributor for the Fox News Channel. According to Fox News Channel Executive Vice President of Programming Bill Shine, Dash’s contributions to the network’s programming will include “cultural analysis and commentary.”
Dash is best known for her role as Dionne Davenport in the movie Clueless and the late-90s TV show of the same name. She also had roles in the movies Mo’ Money and Renaissance Man. More recently the actress has appeared in smaller movies and in TV shows such as Single Ladies and The Game.
“Stacey is an engaging conversationalist whose distinctive viewpoints amongst her Hollywood peers have spawned national debates,” said Shine. “We’re pleased to have her join FOX News.”
By “distinctive viewpoints” Shine referring to Dash’s conservative views, something that is considered a rarity among Hollywood celebrities. Dash’s conservatism became widely known in 2012 when she tweeted out her support for Mitt Romney in that year’s presidential election. The endorsement caused a backlash on social media, with many people tweeting vaguely racist insults at the actress.
Dash’s new Fox News contributor status has caused a similar stir on social media. Dash herself has retweeted many of the worst insults that can be found on Twitter this week:
@REALStaceyDash WOW! I used to like you so much. You have proven yourself mentally ill, especially now by joining FAUX News. Pathetic bigot.

For her part, Dash has taken the high road. In addition to outing haters on Twitter, Dash has retweeted Maya Angelou‘s final tweet and made known her support for LeVar Burton’s Reading Rainbow Kickstarter campaign.
