Sherri Shepherd’s split from her husband Lamar Sally hasn’t been pretty!
As a matter of fact, it’s probably been one of the worst celebrity splits of the year.
For those who missed it, Sally filed for separation on May 2, 2014. Then, not to be outdone, the 47-year-old comedienne-actress turned around and filed for divorce less than two weeks later on May 12.
The divorce filing came less than three months before their surrogate reportedly gave birth to their son. Now, she and her estranged husband are embroiled in a custody battle for the child.
Los Angeles Superior Court documentation revealed Sally requested full legal and physical custody of the unborn child. So, the two are involved in an intense custody battle because Shepherd reportedly doesn’t feel she should be financially obligated to the child.
Although the former co-host of The View hasn’t had much to say about her pending divorce and custody battle, she recently decided to open up about the personal issues she’s currently faced with.
During an interview with Wendy Williams, she shared some interesting details about the daunting divorce proceedings, reports ABC News.
“We don’t talk but I’m on my knees praying a lot for him,” she said. “I have a lot of lawyers… and it’s very public and it’s very painful. For me, I’m not Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott: I’m not paid to talk about my life.”
Unlike Shepherd, Sally has been very vocal throughout the entire process. He recently spoke with People magazine about their ordeal.
He revealed Shepherd still hasn’t met the baby, but he’s adamant about having her name on their son’s certificate regardless of whether or not she decides to be a part of the child’s life.
“I think it’s the worst thing in the world for L.J. to look at his birth certificate at 16 and see it says, ‘Mother unknown,'” he explained.
Sherri Shepherd and Lamar Sally’s divorce has yet to be finalized.
