Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, hasn’t been seen in public recently, and the fact that she’s been out of the public eye has been a matter of concern to former church member and actress, Leah Remini. The actress filed a missing persons report earlier this week for Miscavige, much to the dismay of Scientology leaders.

L.A.P.D. detectives say they have dismissed the report after meeting with the Miscaviges.

“The LAPD has classified the report as unfounded, indicating that Shelly is not missing,” said Detective Gus Villanueva.

A spokesperson for the church released a statement, saying that Remini’s report was harassment. Several people have publicly questioned the whereabouts of Shelly Miscavige, as she reportedly hasn’t been seen in several years. Remini allegedly asked about her in 2006 at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding and has said she was told that she didn’t have the rank in the church to ask such questions.

“It is a publicity stunt cooked up by a small band of unemployed fanatics who live on the fringe of the Internet,” the rep said. “The Church and the attorney for Mrs. Miscavige have already responded to this ludicrous claim.”

Remini, who made a break from the church earlier this year, found herself in the middle of some controversy afterward when rumors began swirling online that she left because she’d been subjected to “thought modification” by members of the church, who also allegedly tried to keep her away from her family. A spokesperson for the church told WebProNews that the rumors were completely untrue, however.

“The allegations of “interrogations” and “thought modification” are absurd and pure nonsense, as are all the statements made about the Church’s leader, Mr. David Miscavige,” Thalia Ghiglia said. “Under the 25-year leadership of Mr. Miscavige, following in the footsteps of our Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, the Church is enjoying tremendous expansion as shown in our new Churches opening in six continents and the many new parishioners joining their congregations.”
