Just when you thought Selena Gomez would keep her image squeaky clean, her rep admits that she has been to rehab. That’s right, the singer, actress and former Disney star signed herself into rehab for two weeks and somehow managed to keep it a secret until now.
Gomez checked herself into Dawn At The Meadows, a facility that specializes in emotional disorders and addiction problems. It is specially designed to treat young adults between the ages of 18 and 26. Although Gomez’s rep confirmed that she was in rehab, he denied that she was there for any type of addiction.
Many of Gomez’s friends and colleagues have also had stints in rehab, including her best friend, Demi Lovato. Gomez had canceled her tours in Asia and Australia and claimed that she needed some time to focus on herself. Apparently time was not enough and the young singer needed some help.
After cancelling the tours, Gomez made a statement to fans saying,
“It has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be,”
A source close to Gomez said, “She’s been working nonstop since she was 15 and she wants to take a minute to herself.”
It’s easy to see why Gomez did not tell anyone about her stint in rehab. So many young stars go to rehab, it has almost become the Hollywood thing to do. Most stars want to avoid negative attention and with rehab sounding so hopeless and cliché, she likely felt it was better to keep it a secret for as long as possible.
Perhaps rehab helped Gomez gather her thoughts and clear her mind. She has not released a statement since leaving the facility.
Do you think rehab helped Gomez or will she return for other problems in the future?
