Sarah Jessica Parker said recently that she’s totally down for a third “Sex And The City” movie, and at least two of her costars are willing to go along for the ride.
While nothing has been confirmed, Parker did say that she feels it’s something that needs to be done very soon, while all the main characters are in their prime.
“A part of me thinks there is one last chapter to tell,” she said in an interview with InStyle. “But timing is a peculiar thing. It isn’t a decision that can wait forever. I don’t want to have to wear muumuus!”
Kristen Davis, who plays Charlotte, agrees and says that she’d love to see another film done as long as there is a story worth telling their fans.
“I would want to do it,” Davis said. “I’m on record — I’ll be on record again — I feel like it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Our fans are beautiful and loyal and talk to me wherever I go, and in whatever country I’m in, and that means a lot to all of us. So if the situation arose where we had a script and everyone loved it, and the studio wanted to make it, I think that it would be fantastic and I hope it happens but I have no idea if it will happen.”
Writer Michael Patrick King says there is definite interest in a new tale, but that the script has to be done well. It’s not a matter of making more money, which is often the case with blockbuster sequels.
“[Sex and the City] spilled over into people’s lives and the characters were rounded enough that you could still wonder where they are,” King said. “What I do know is that there’s interest … It’s all really about the stories, and if you actually think you have something left to say that would make it exciting and worthwhile for the fans’ time, that’s really the question. Not whether you can get away with it, not whether anybody will buy it, not whether you can make money on it.”
For now, Parker is busy with her new shoe line, which is available exclusively at Nordstrom.
