Salesforce is adding OpenAI’s frontier models and NVIDIA’s models and accelerated computing to Missionforce, its AI platform for government and defense agencies, as the platform turns one year old. The company announced the expansion on Sept. 16 along with new agents for procurement, policy and field work.

“Government agencies want tailored AI that runs everywhere they operate while staying within the secure environments their missions demand,” said Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud. “Missionforce enables this at scale, with purpose-built AI that executes the mission and enables agencies to solve their hardest problems while maintaining operational control.”

OpenAI and NVIDIA in the stack

OpenAI’s frontier models will integrate with Salesforce’s Public Sector Solutions through Amazon Bedrock inside Salesforce Government Cloud. Missionforce applications and workflows will also be available through ChatGPT, so government and national security staff can reach authorized data and trigger Missionforce actions from a chat interface. Salesforce describes this as a planned integration and hasn’t given a date.

On the NVIDIA side, Salesforce is bringing NVIDIA models and accelerated computing into Missionforce so customers in highly sensitive industries can train, tune and deploy mission-specific models on their own data. The companies are also working to let customers build and run post-trained NVIDIA models on their own infrastructure for specialized workloads.

New agents and a Policy Engine

  • Missionforce Policy Engine uses OpenAI models to turn approved policy documents into structured, deterministic rule code, with test cases to validate it. “Every output will remain subject to human review and approval before deployment,” Salesforce said. In one example the company gave, a state Medicaid program could automatically re-check a child’s eligibility when a family’s income changes and produce a full audit trail.
  • Missionforce Operations turns paper-based processes like procurement, supplier management and invoice audits into digital workflows. AI agents run tasks, track status and flag exceptions, all inside private cloud or air-gapped environments. Salesforce will fine-tune NVIDIA models on each organization’s operational data to power these agents.
  • Missionforce Field Operations & Asset Management uses agents to automate scheduling, work orders and asset maintenance, with offline mobile support for remote sites.

A fast-growing business

Salesforce said public sector is now its fastest-growing industry business and that its defense business has grown 80% year over year, TechRadar reported. The company says it works with 60 federal agencies, all 15 U.S. Cabinet departments, all 50 states and all six branches of the military, in more than 30 countries. “One year in, the momentum behind Missionforce shows how quickly government agencies are moving from AI ambition to operational deployment,” Collins said.

Salesforce cautioned that pricing and packaging may change and that availability varies by region. For enterprise buyers outside government, the expansion shows where the major AI vendors are heading. Frontier models are being delivered into controlled, sometimes air-gapped environments, wrapped in deterministic rules and human sign-off, rather than as open-ended chatbots.
