Rovio, the developer behind the Angry Birds series, today announced that it will publish a game called Tiny thief on Thursday, July 11. The game, the second to come out under the publisher’s ‘Rovio Stars’ label, will be available for both iOS and Android.
Rovio Stars is Rovio’s initiative to publish third-party titles on mobile platforms. It’s a tacit acknowledgement that a single mobile developer cannot stay innovative enough by itself to dominate mobile gaming, and that the popularity of the Angry Birds franchise may not last forever. The first game released under the label was Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage.
In contrast to Icebreaker’s physics-based action gameplay, Tiny Thief is a more laid-back hidden object and puzzle-solving game. The game is set in a medieval world full of offbeat characters and humorous events. The effect, as seen in the trailer below, is a game that seems similar to classic point-and-click adventure games such as Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island, which would seem to be a perfect fit for touch-based mobile gaming.
