Rooney Mara has played some pretty incredible roles over the years since her breakout role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
That role rocketed her to stardom and Rooney Mara hasn’t stopped yet.
Rooney Mara is now up for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar at Sunday’s ceremony for her delicate role in Carol opposite the great Cate Blanchett.
Carol is a lesbian romance between a middle-age socialite and a young department store clerk. It is set in the early 1950’s, when lesbian romances were quite taboo.
In an interview with Deadline earlier this week, Rooney Mara revealed her two favorite scenes from the film. Both of them were quiet, intimate scenes with Blanchett.
She said, “The first one is where Carol and Therese have lunch together for the first time. That was the first scene we got to do together where we really had a back-and-forth. We had the whole day to shoot, which was a luxury given our schedule and we did the scene in its entirety.”
She continued, “Someone [on set] observed, ‘That was like playing tennis with someone really good.’ Yeah, it’s like playing tennis with the best tennis player. It was like being in a play.”
She added, “The second scene is the one that bookends the film when we’re having tea. That was another scene we got to do in long takes. There was so much subtlety and nuance going on.”
