Roger Clemens Verdict: Twitter Is Divided
Written by Amanda Crum

Roger Clemens’ verdict had the whole country buzzing yesterday after it was announced that he was found not guilty on all six counts charged against him: one count of obstruction of Congress, three counts of making false statements and two counts of perjury.

The trial was based around his claims during a Congressional investigation four years ago that he never used performance-enhancing drugs, and a former trainer–Brian McNamee–coming forward to say he’d witnessed Clemens using steroids. McNamee claimed to have evidence of the drug use and presented several items, including drug vials, cotton balls, and hypodermic needles that had been stashed in a beer can several years ago which supposedly had Clemens’ DNA on them. However, because the items could have been contaminated by the way they were stored, they were thrown out.

The famed pitcher’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, hopes that now that the trial is over people will finally believe his client.

“I hope those in the public that made up their mind (about Clemens’ steroid use) before there was a trial will now back up and entertain the possibility of what he’s always said: Using steroids and HGH is cheating, and is totally contrary to his entire career,” he said.

But fans seem pretty divided on where to stand regarding the beloved pitcher; on the one hand, it’s hard to imagine the great Roger Clemens as a liar or a cheat. But on the other sits a mountain of evidence that seems to point to the contrary. Twitter users seemed fairly divided on the subject after the verdict was announced yesterday.
