Jump the Shark: a term to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity. (Origin of this phrase comes from a Happy Days episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on water skis. This was labeled the lowest point of the show.)
Not that there was ever any greatness to his music, but singer-songwriter Robin Thicke may be the latest artist to make that proverbial leap.
After an embarrassing performance with Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards and filing for separation from his wife, Paula Patton, in February, the 37-year old singer-songwriter has partnered up with 1-800-FLOWERS for a special promotion.
The “Get Her Back Bouquet”, inspired by Thicke’s single, includes 100 premium long-stem red roses “artistically hand-designed” by the expert florists at 1-800-FLOWERS and retails at $349.99.
There is also the less-pricey “Forever Love Bouquet” that retails at $64.99 and includes 12 long-stemmed roses.
As further enticement, those purchasing one of these two arrangements can score a free download of Thicke’s new album, Paula.
The album, Paula, is a sappy sad attempt to win back Patton after their break-up, which occurred after rumors became rampant about Thicke’s unfaithfulness last August.
“We will always love each other and be best friends,” the two said in a joint statement in February, but apparently the Blurred Lines singer is now trying to win back his wife of nine years.
Or is he?
Some say that this album, as well as the flower promotion, is just Thicke using his rocky marriage to promote sales … or just seem creepier than he already appears.
This Robin Thicke promotion is the worst 1-800-FLOWERS campaign since 1983's "Every Breath You Take" bouquet. http://t.co/pzyViht1xS

Robin Thicke teamed up w/1-800-Flowers to create a new bouquet. Because when ladies think romance, they think of that date rape song guy.

As far as the album goes, it was initially reported by media outlets that Paula hadn’t even made it to Australia’s top 500 chart and had sold less than 54 copies. However, these numbers were reported before the album was actually released.
Despite the initial reports, the video for the single Get Her Back has been viewed over 5 million times on YouTube, though it is not clear if that’s from actual interest in Thicke’s music or a chance to actually view how “thicke” he can spread it on.
