As WebProNews’ ‘Tweets of the Day’ articles show, Twitter can be a great place for comedy. Making someone laugh shouldn’t require more than 140 characters, and Rob Delaney is a perfect example of this idea.
Over the weekend, the Comedy Awards took place on Comedy Central, with 2012 being its second annual show. They added an assortment of digital and online categories, of which Rob Delaney won “Funniest Person on Twitter“. He beat out some staunch competition, as Steve Martin, Stephen Colbert, and Aziz Ansari were nominated as well. The award was decided by a people’s vote, so having 396,000 followers helped as well. Delaney took to Twitter (obviously), to thank everyone who helped him win, in humorous fashion of course…
@TheComedyAwards. You helped me beat Steve Martin so you’re basically stupid assholes.
Thank you very much to those who voted for me inDelaney’s thoughts on what it takes to be successful on Twitter are simple and it makes you wonder how so many people just don’t ‘get it’. “Don’t work too hard on a tweet“, continuing, “When you see people trying to, for example, synthesize two current news stories into one ‘clever’ tweet, it can get pretty clunky and their labor is obvious, rendering their tweet unfunny.”
I’ve been following Delaney for awhile now, and I can tell you his tweets always stand out. They have the spur of the moment hilarity which resonates so well, and will either leave me A.) laughing and/or B.) thinking. Again, simple processes. Have a preview of some of Delaney’s tweets below. Was he deserving of the award?
@ParisHilton: In bed watching The Simpson’s and playing Modern Warfare on Playstation.

Sex ed. when you’re home-schooled must be horrific.
I like women with hairy arms. Lets me know I’m probably gonna like what I find downstairs.
Can’t believe Jesus is doing NOTHING about my rapid weight gain.
Thinking about calling 911 just to feel a fireman’s embrace.
