  • Any proper nineties kid is familiar with Raven Symone, the star and titular character of the past Disney hit, “That’s So Raven,” as well as the star of “The Cheetah Girls” movies. Others might remember or know of her from the “Doctor Do Little” films, or her child acting on “The Cosby Show.” Though Symone’s career has not been as high-profile in more recent years, she has become an interesting icon at a rapid pace; and it’s all because of this tweet.

That’s right; Raven Symone came out of the closet publicly. And, apparently, it is ruining people’s perfectly crafted, nineties-era childhoods. The writer of this article would like to point out that she has personally seen about five different variations of the following tweet on at least three social media sites.

Yes, you heard it here first. Just like those recent reboots of old cartoons and movies made to feed off of your nostalgia, actors from your beloved, consumerist childhood coming out about their sexuality is a terrible, awful thing that ruins said childhood. How tragic.

Symone, however, doesn’t seem phased by the bizarrely negative online reactions. While she was not particularly forthcoming about her sexuality in earlier years, she has now come forward to release an official statement in regards to the tweet, which is as follows: “I was excited to hear today that more states legalized gay marriage. I, however am not currently getting married, but it is great to know I can now, should I wish to.”

Hopefully, the internet rage will pass, (as it tends to, with time), and Symone will be able to continue her being in peace. The whole instance begs a certain question, however; why, exactly, does it matter? How does Symone’s sexual orientation factor in to any person’s childhood experiences, much less ruin them?

Can’t think of a good answer? Good.
