Powerball Jackpot $400 Million For Next Drawing

There was no lucky winner on Saturday, when the Powerball numbers were announced. Therefore, the money will roll over to the next drawing, totaling $400 million.

Thanks to the quick-pick option, the most recent Powerball winner, 84-year-old Gloria C. Mackenzie of Zephyrhills, Florida, took home the $590 million jackpot in June. “While in line at Publix another lottery player was kind enough to let me go ahead of them in line to purchase the winning Quick Pick ticket,” she said in a statement at the time, according to Florida lottery officials.

The winning numbers for Saturday’s drawing were 21, 24, 36, 42 and 45; the Powerball was 15. The Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Although the odds of matching all six numbers are 1 in 175.2 million, that doesn’t stop people from trying! A popular tactic amongst the lottery players is to simply rely on the computer-generated numbers. Almost 80 percent of all players let the computer pick their numbers. This may be a good idea because it is reported that the majority of Powerball winners have been people who relied on using the quick-pick.

The next drawing is Wednesday, August 7.
