Last week, Microsoft announced that it would be holding an “Ultimate Game Sale” this week for Xbox Live. Several big games made the list and a few each day will be on sale throughout the week. Now, Sony has stepped up to counter Microsoft’s sale with one of its own for the PlayStation Network.

Sony today announced that the PlayStation Network “Summer Blast” sale will start tomorrow in the U.S. The sale will last around two weeks, with different titles being on sale each week. Discounts will range from around 20% off to 60% off, though PlayStation Plus subscribers will see even steeper discounts.

The first weekly sales period will last from July 2 to July 9. The games on sale will be: Call of Duty: Black Ops II, The Amazing Spider-Man, Batman Arkham Asylum, The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, Mortal Kombat (for both PS3 and Vita), Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, Shadow of the Colossus, and Ratchet & Clank Collection. The second sales period will be from July 9 to July 16. The second group of games: Fast & Furious Showdown, Star Trek, Men in Black: Alien Crisis, The Simpsons Arcade Game, X-Men, Hitman Trilogy HD, Lord of the Rings: War in the North, Silent Hill: Book of Memories, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (for both PS3 and Vita), The Adventures of TinTin: The Game, Star Wars The Force Unleashed II, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game, Just Cause 2, Prince of Persia Classics Trilogy, Tron Evolution, Alice: Madness Returns, and Fight Night Champion. There will also be some movies on sale during these next two weeks, but the only notable ones are Ted, Up, Toy Story 3, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The specific prices for each of these digital products can be found over at the PlayStation blog.

Sony is not including recent AAA titles such as BioShock Infinite, Crysis 3, and Far Cry 3 in its sale, which will all be a part of Microsoft’s Xbox Live sale. It’s likely that Sony’s discounts will be a bit higher than Microsoft’s, however, so it seems gamers will get lower prices or newer games, depending on which console the use.
