We knew there would be a tie-in game for the video game inspired Disney movie Wreck-It Ralph. We just thought it would be closer to the films release date in November.
We were wrong, and gladly, too. The Wreck-It Ralph inspired game, Fix-It Felix Jr., is actually pretty good. You play as Fix-it Felix, repairing destroyed windows of a high-rise skyscraper as Wreck-it Ralph rains bricks on you from above. There are also obstacles to get around and birds to dodge, as you climb around the building, grabbing pies that building residents leave cooling on their windows for bonus points.
They do a great job of capturing what early games like Donkey Kong and Burger Time were all about, complete with the often frustrating and addictive gameplay. And they do it in a way that pays homage to these games without blatantly ripping them off.
Wreck-It Ralph looks like a lot of fun for kids and adults that grew up playing these games. It is going to come with tons of video game references for all you gamers out there including Bowser, M. Bison, Dr. Robotnik, Zangief, Blinky, Q-Bert and tons of others. John C. Reilly is probably going to be hilarious as usual, and is joined by quality co-stars in Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman. This should be good.
