The Colts will be losing another offensive weapon to free agency this year. Of course, the big news in the NFL has been Peyton Manning’s release from Indianapolis a week ago. But the traditionally pass-happy Colts will say goodbye to one of their top downfield targets as veteran receiver Pierre Garcon got nabbed by the Washington Redskins on day one of the NFL’s free-agent roundup.

Garcon announed the news via Facebook and Twitter yesterday afternoon.

In his four years as a Colt, Garcon totaled 188 receptions for 2,519 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. More than a third of those numbers came this past season, with field general Peyton Manning on the sidelines. Garcon also has 524 total returning yards and 44 rushing yards to his name.

The Colts will hold on to their number one receiver, Reggie Wayne, however. When Manning’s release from the Colts was announced, rumors circulated that Wayne was looking to follow Manning to his new team. If there was any validity to the rumors, things didn’t pan out. Wayne re-signed with the Colts on a three-year deal Tuesday.

Washington’s picking up Garcon is just one of several moves in the team’s wide-receiver upgrade. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports via tweet, that the ‘Skins also picked up former 49er Josh Morgan, and look to be courting Denver’s Eddie Royal as well:

There is an agreement between free-agent WR Josh Morgan and Redskins. So two new WRs: Morgan and Pierre Garcon, so far. Eddie Royal on deck.(image) 17 hours ago via UberSocial for BlackBerry ·  Reply ·  Retweet ·  Favorite · powered by @socialditto
