Phil Robertson and Duck Dynasty Family: Spiritual Warfare Victims

Phil Robertson and his Duck Dynasty family have come under attack ever since the A&E show’s patriarch made some anti-gay comments in the January 2014 issues of GQ magazine. The attacks, according to daughter-in-law Missy Robertson, are evidence of spiritual warfare.

Missy is Jace Robertson’s wife. The couple recently spoke to CNSNews.com about the criticism that has followed Phil Robertson following the GQ interview.

“So, and if you know anything about Phil Robertson, you know he’s not going to be bullied,” Missy Robertson said. “No, he’s not. He’s self-assured. A lot of people thought that what he was talking about in that [GQ] interview was his own opinions. But he was quoting Scripture. He knows the Scriptures so well, he didn’t need to go get the Bible and lay it out. He just started quoting. So, that’s where I think people were misled, that’s just coming out of his mouth as an opinion, but it wasn’t.”

Robertson is even touting a new film called Persecuted in which spiritual warfare is said to be prevalent. His own attacks–and those aimed at his Duck Dynasty family members–didn’t start until after the GQ interview.

In the GQ article, Phil Robertson was quoted as calling homosexuality a sin, and using words like ‘promiscuity’ and ‘bestiality’ comparatively.

“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus,” Robertson said to GQ. “That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

It would seem if Phil Robertson didn’t want to cause a stir, he might have chosen his words a bit more conservatively. But he didn’t. He went on instead.

“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men,” he said.

And then he added, “Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”

And now Phil Robertson and his family believe they are the victims of spiritual warfare.

Missy Robertson says the whole Duck Dynasty family wants to ‘show Jesus through love and not judgment and criticism.’

“We don’t want to be looked at that way,” she says. “Jesus came here, yes, with the sword to make sure that people knew right from wrong. But that’s not for us to decide. God is the judge, not us.”

Do you think Phil Robertson and his family members are victims of spiritual warfare or perhaps of Phil’s careless words instead? Is our country under an attack of spiritual warfare as well?

Will you be checking out Persecuted at your local movie theater? It would be interesting to learn if Phil Robertson perceives his and the country’s attacks as being similar.
