Good news for Persona and fighting game fans everywhere – Atlus has announced Persona 4 Arena for release in the U.S.

For those who have just joined the party, Persona 4 Arena takes the established characters from the much loved and critically acclaimed PS2 JRPG Persona 4 and pits them against each other in a fighting game for the ages.

The game will be developed by Arc System Works who are famous for creating the legendary Guilty Gear franchise and the equally insane BlazBlue fighting franchise.

“The Persona series has had tremendous success in North America, and Persona 4 in particular opened the series up to wider audiences than ever before,” said Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at ATLUS. “Now we’re looking to expand Persona even further by teaming up with a very strong partner, Arc System Works, to move the franchise outside of the RPG genre and develop its potential in new and exciting ways.”

The game features the cast from Persona 4 with a few characters from Persona 3 including fan favorite Aigis. The game will release this summer for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Have some screens and a trailer while we wait for the inevitable match up between Aigis and Kanji.
